Michel Balagué – Producer

Michel Balagué has produced and co-produced films by directors such as Hanna Slak, Tamer El Said, Filipa César, Leila Albayaty, Mais Darwazah, and Marcin Malaszczak. Between 2010 and 2015 he was co-director of Mengamuk Films.

Furthermore, Michel has produced art films by Cyprien Gaillard, Terence Koh, Tarek Atoui, Bárbara Wagner/Benjamin de Búrca and many others. Besides these individual collaborations, he was commissioned to make films for international institutions including Haus der Kulturen der Welt and Kunst-Werke in Berlin, Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona, The Yokohoma Triennial, and the Cimatheque in Cairo. He also produced films by and with the art curators Hila Peleg and Catherine David.

Michel participated in the EAVE Producers Workshop, the Emerging Producers Program in Jihlava, the Studio program of the New Horizons Festival in Wrocław and in Berlinale Talents.

Alongside his work as a producer, Michel co-founded the super 8 & 16mm collective LaborBerlin in 2006. He has collaborated with a range of art institutions around the world, mostly on film related projects, and previously had a career as an award-winning DoP.

Michel Balagué lives and works in Berlin since 2003.
