Maria Gans – Filmemacherin, Editorin

Maria Gans discovered her love for essay films during her film studies at the Haute Ecole d’art et de design in Geneva. In her diploma film, she explored her personal relationship with the GDR past of her home town Halle, and reconciled herself with contradictions and shame.

The “Prix d’Excellence” of the Hans Wilsdorf Stiftung allowed her to travel to Bucharest, where she directed ENTRE TERRE ET CIEL, a film about her particular encounter with a painter. His words and her camera turned her inside out. Her films aim for truthfulness and to break tabus between people.

Since 2016 , she lives in Berlin as a freelance editor and assistant editor.

For the exposé of her debut film, she took part in the Masterschool Drehbuch and wrote the first script version with the help of the Filmnetzwerk Mentoring Program.
